This study investigates the effect of using cooperative learning (CL) as a strategy in enhancing students’ level of writing; it aims to find out whether the students writing ability would be improved by using this strategy. To give reliability to the study, two questionnaires have been submitted to a sample composed of forty six (46) first year master students at Frère Mentouri University – Constantine, and ten (10) teachers of writing from the department. The aim of the questionnaires was to collect information about the role and the importance given to cooperative learning by both the students and teachers in developing writing skill and their attitude toward using cooperative learning as strategy to enhance the writing skills in the classroom. The results have shown that cooperative learning could be an appropriate strategy that increases students’ writing proficiency. Additionally, the result of the questionnaires confirmed the hypothesis that the students have a positive attitudes toward using CL as a strategy to develop their writing, and that it is an accurate technique that develops students’ writing skills and creates a positive classroom environment where students can participate without fear of committing mistakes. |
