Résumé :	This present research paper is an investigation of a problem which is the use of both “Cultural substitution” and “Ellipsis” by students of Master 1 applied languages while translating. This study has been conducted with a sample of 30 students out of 250 who are asked to answer a questionnaire made up of twelve questions and translate ten sentences from English to Arabic. The questionnaire and the test serve to show students’ awareness about these two strategies and how they are using them while translating. The results demonstrate that students are not enough aware about these two strategies. And they are using them in the wrong way. This means that students must get in touch with these two concepts and understand them more through different tools in order to translate in the right way. In addition, teachers should teach these two notions to make the students aware of them.
