Résumé :	This dissertation is intended to investigate the main problems that third year LMD students at the University of Constantine 01 face when writing in English. Our main concern was to help students overcome their difficulties in writing essays. In order to achieve this purpose, a hypothesis was put forward, that if teachers of written expression provided students with intensive practice in writing and detailed feedback, the learners ’ability to write would improve and they would produce more effective essays.To check our hypothesis two questionnaires were designed one for teachers and the other one for students. The analysis of the findings reveals that students’ major writing difficulties are related to vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation, coherence, cohesion and organization and could be overcome through reading, using dictionaries, group work, practice and corrective feedback.
