Résumé :	Using affixes is one of the processes of word-formation which is neglected by students of English as a foreign language, in that they have a tendency to take only the English words (noun, verb, adjective and adverb) into account and for granted. The present study endeavours to attain the main causes that impede the students’ mastery of the process of using affixes. To accomplish objective results, a questionnaire was given to first year Master students of English at Constantine I- University. The questionnaire investigated the most important parts of the first chapter – a literature review – of the present study. It aimed to ascertain the different problems and difficulties that a student might face when creating different words through the process of using affixes. The results have clearly demonstrated that the majority of the sample subjects have some basic knowledge about the topic under study but this knowledge is unstable and incomplete. Consequently, the students’ main setback is the lack of extensive knowledge in this domain.
