This study primarily investigates the problem of non-equivalence at word level in translation
between Arabic and English which is observed as the weakness of the majority of students in
English Department – University of Constantine 1. The study aims first at dwelling on the
phenomenon of non lexical equivalence when translating cultural concepts from Arabic into
English. It aims specifically at investigating the strategies suggested by translation
theoreticians to solve them; whether the students of English are aware of these strategies and
whether the context -in which the lexical term is used- is decisive. This was done in the
perspective of a better understanding of the phenomenon and of getting insights to be used in
teaching translation, in general and in teaching the translation of culture-specific concepts in
particular. |
