Language Science Studies delayed Error Speaking Skill Correction |
Résumé : |
In the present study, we investigated the importance of mistakes and their role in
enhancing students’ oral performance. Besides, we focused on the mistakes committed in the
classroom, the way they are treated suggesting delayed correction as the appropriate strategy
to encourage students to speak. Also, we emphasized on teachers’ role in the classroom to
motivate students to participate and try with the language for the purpose of achieving
communicative ability in using the English language. Moreover, the difference between
mistakes and errors, what should be corrected and when is being highlighted, the importance
of the Speaking Skill, the various techniques used by teachers to develop that skill as well as
both teachers’ and students’ attitudes towards mistakes. For our study, two questionnaires
were given to both teachers and students randomly chosen from the English Department at
Mentouri University, Constantine. Behind our hypothesis and means of research, we aimed to
spotlight on the significance of mistakes in the learning process and how teachers’ delayed
correction plays a positive role in developing students’ speaking ability. After giving the
questionnaires and having them analyzed, we concluded that both teachers and students value
the speaking skill where they use various techniques to develop that skill and give further
attention to the correction technique, the type of the mistake committed as well as the right
time of correction. |
