Résumé : |
The present study aims to explore the relationship between self-confidence and oral
speaking productions. The hypothesis set forth at the very beginning of this dissertation is :
the more students trust their abilities, and the more they believe in their abilities, the more
likely they are to enhance their speaking abilities in the foreign language. To verify this
hypothesis, two questionnaires were designed: the first one was administered to a sample
of 45 students of third year LMD, and the second one was delivered to 10 teachers of oral
expression at the department of English, University of Constantine. The results obtained
from the present research paper showed that third year LMD learners do not always have a
high level of self-confidence, and that there is a positive relationship between students’
self-confidence and their foreign language speaking performance, and that this relationship
affects directly their level and frequency of oral practice and productions. On the basis of
these results, the hypothesis was confirmed in that students need to have a high level of selfconfidence
to develop the speaking skill needed and that teachers need to create suitable
situations where learners can use the language without hesitation. The same conviction was
confirmed by all teachers’ answers to the questionnaire |
