Résumé : |
The meaning of the word "translation" seem very simple to ordinary people, but for translators it does not. Translation is one of the broadest and deepest aspects in the field of linguistics. Among the issues which disturb both translators and experts of linguistic studies is poetry which is considered as a debatable topic in the domain of translation; some say poetry is translatable, others say it is not. This is mainly because of the beauty of its language which is given to gifted people only. That is, in translating poetry, equivalence can be reached in terms of content but not in terms of aesthetics. In the present study, pieces of poems and songs of English free verse have been given to a sample of students of English for translation. The aim behind that was to examine the students‘ awareness of the specificities of poetry. The findings have proved the students‘ inability to convert both form and content from one language into another in the domain of poetry. |
