Résumé : |
The rapid changes in the world whether the technological, the political or the social ones had imposed analogous changes in the field of education as well. Old curriculums and syllabuses of education are no longer useful for the current time; many approaches, methods, and techniques had been modified, expired or simply become old fashioned. This study is concerned with those changes; more precisely how the educational system changed from the Teacher-centred to the Student-centred method. The former has become one of the most advocated approaches all over the world with regard to its concrete satisfactory results. The research in hand deals with the implementation of the Student-centred method in the daily classroom subjects in relation with Cooperative Learning which is considered as one of the most motivational techniques to gain student’s involvement in the classroom activities. This research is carried out by means of two questionnaires; one for 12 teachers of English and the other for 40 students of third year English at the department of Letters and English language. The analysis of the questionnaires’ results reveal that most teachers in Constantine 1 University are using the Student-centred method and their awareness of this method leads most of time to effective learning outcomes. Moreover, most teachers are implementing Cooperative Learning in their classes, due to its motivational benefits on the student’s learning; they notice the students’ increasing willingness to learn, understand and involve in the topic in hand when they work cooperatively. Students, too, claim that they find the Student-centred method and Cooperative Learning much more interesting and fun; they enhance their abilities for searching information, their critical thinking and self-dependent strategies to learn. These results lead us to confirm the validity of the suggested hypothesis which stipulates that Student-centred method and Cooperative Learning correlate positively with the student’s positive achievement and motivation. |
