Résumé : |
The present study aims at analyzing fifty essays produced by second year students of English at University of Frères Mentouri, Constantine in order to arrive at an identification, classification and an explanation for the most occurring errors in these students‟ written production. The study also seeks to suggest a number of pedagogical recommendations to improve the writing quality of students through reducing their errors. Through corpus analysis, this research intends to answer two main questions about the most occurring type of errors and their main reason(s). It was hypothesized that grammatical errors have the highest frequency of occurrence; however, the analysis reveals that form errors are predominant. Results also show that interference of the mother tongue is the primary reason behind the errors. Eventually, it is suggested to involve students in more reading-based tasks to help them improve their knowledge of English; thus, decreasing the number of errors in their writings. |
