Résumé : |
This research study sheds some light on English for Specific Purposes which provides opportunities to learners to acquire English naturally. In this work, the discussion is concerned with the legal field as neither under-graduate law students nor lawyers are able to understand English or use it despite the fact that they are always faced with many instruments –in English- to be manipulated. This problem is faced because no appropriate English for Legal Purposes courses are provided. This research work is a case study of second year master’s law students at the ‘Faculty of Law’ at Frères Mentouri University. It is divided into two chapters. The theoretical chapter discusses the English for Specific Purposes field in general, the process of teaching/ learning ESP and then the concept of legal English. The practical chapter introduces the interview that has been carried with an English teacher in the Faculty of Law within the first part; whereas, the second part contains the lesson designed on the basis of the findings, its implementation, in addition to some recommendations. The main results that emerged from this study revealed that law students are aware of the significance of English for their future profession; however, they have a low level in English. This is due to several factors. First, there is no syllabus set to be followed which leads teachers to use their own lessons. Additionally, technological media and supports are not used at all, so teachers find some difficulties to motivate students. Also, the course objectives are not thoroughly set and in general are only partially achieved |
