Reading is a basic communication skill; therefore, it is a centered activity in English as a
Foreign Language .Our case study attempts to investigate the role of reading for pleasure as
an effective strategy to improve students’ vocabulary. For this we hypothesized that if
second year English students at Mentouri University, Constantin read for pleasure, they will
improve their vocabulary. The research is divided into two chapters: theoretical and practical.
Chapter one consists of two sections. The first section contains information about reading and
reading for pleasure .The second section deals with vocabulary. To check the validity of our
hypothesis, tow questionnaires were used: one for 08 teachers and another for 40 students.
And this represents the practical part. The results revealed that reading for pleasure has an
effect on students’ vocabulary. Moreover, according to the obtained results, the majority of
students and teachers agree that reading for pleasure has a great effect in developing EFL
learners’ vocabulary. Thus, it is clear that through such results and the conclusions we
reached, our hypothesis has been confirmed. Answers a |
