Résumé : |
Students of English as a foreign language do not seem to know the importance of prepositions “In, On, At” in the English grammatical system. Similarly, they seem to find it crucial to use whether “In”, “On” or “At” in various situations. This confusion is a result of several factors which students confront throughout the learning process. We have noticed that the prepositions “In”, “On”, “At” are not given enough attention at the Department of Letters and the English Language, University “Des Frères Mentouri”, Constantine. The current study, which consists of three chapters, seeks to explore whether second Year Grammar teachers at the Department of Letters and the English Language, University “Des Frères Mentouri”, Constantine implement crossword puzzles in the classroom for enhancing and motivating students’ understanding of the three prepositions “In”, “On”, “At”. Two questionnaires were administered to second year Grammar teachers and one group of second year students at the Department of Letters and the English Language, University “Des Frères Mentouri”, Constantine in order to investigate our hypothesis which claims that if the surveyed second year Grammar teachers use crossword puzzles as a teaching strategy, the students’ understanding of prepositions “In”, “On”, “At” will increase. The results collected from both questionnaires have exposed that crossword puzzle is an effective learning strategy that strengthens students’ understanding and motivation towards prepositions “In”, “On”, “At”. |
