Oliver Twist,Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This research is an attempt to analyze the effects of the Industrial Revolution onVictorian
Britain, through Dickens’ Oliver Twist. This study contains a series of evidences which prove
that even though industrialization helped in the prosperity of the British society, it also created a
huge numbers of discrepancies related to the poor people. Many of the latter lived under
unsanitary and dirty conditions which led to mortal diseases, social injustices and unbearable
conditions of living for all the classes in Britain. Dickens, the realistic novelist, used his pen and
his talent to depict the world in which he lived as a strategy in order to make people become
aware about the real conditions in which they lived and pushed them to claim social reforms and
solutions. Dickens also depicted the real image of the living conditions in the workhouse and how
children were exploited.
This research will display that Dickens strongly opposed the New Poor Law of 1834 and
the creation of workhouses. It will show also that Dickens also rejected child labor because of his
childhood experiences especially in the workhouseDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=4545 Societal injustices during the victorian age charles dickens’ oliver twist : A case study [texte imprimé] / Mohamed Islem Bouaroura, Auteur ; Myriam Boussafsaf, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2017 . - 50 f. ; 30 cm.
