Résumé : |
This dissertation exposes students’ viewpoints about stress-shift in complex words while
listening to native speakers. We can say that learning the rules of stress together with listening
to native speakers may be a good method to master pronunciation and stress-shift, henceforth,
producing correct stress patterns. In order to confirm or disconfirm this hypothesis, a test and
a questionnaire are administered to Master-one students at Constantine 1 University. The
objective is to know if students rely on listening to overcome stress-shift handicap and
therefore improve their pronunciation. Hence, the analysis shows that stress-shift is difficult
and impedes students’ listening comprehension for most of them. So, listening is a necessary
process to get rid of these obstacles (although they claim the opposite. That is to say, in the
test, the majority of students’ answers are correct concerning stress placement and stressshift). |
