This study investigates the effectiveness of the use of electronic dictionaries as a learning
strategy to develop foreign language learners Vocabulary acquisition. The main objective of
this study is finding out to what extent does the use of electronic dictionaries helpsforeign
students promoting their vocabulary acquisition. So, the hypothesis is, “if foreign language
learners use electronic dictionaries, they would better increase their vocabulary knowledge”.
One research instruments is used in this research study. A students’ questionnaire
administered to 45 third year English students at the Department of Letters and the English
Language, University of “Des Frère Mentouri”, Constantine 1. And a teachers’ questionnaire
administered to 10 EFL teachers at the same department. The results obtained from the
analysis of the questionnaires show that both teachers and students favor the use of electronic
dictionaries to look up the meaning of new words; and they believe that it is an effective
strategy that can enhance the acquisition of vocabulary. That is to say, the results of both
questionnaires confirm the research hypothesis. |
