Résumé : |
The difficulty that ESL/EFL learners usually find in the writing skill might be accentuated during exams in the case of students who suffer from high levels of test anxiety. One might be tempted to think that the students who do not suffer from anxiety during the writing exam are those who practice writing outside the classroom enough to be familiar with the act of writing. Writing experience is proved by research to have enormous effects on learners’ writing quality, and it is the aim of the present study to check whether it is also related to lower levels of test anxiety. It is hypothesized that the more experience the student has of writing outside the classroom, the lower his level of anxiety during the writing exam is. To check this hypothesis, two questionnaires were administered to 48 second year students in the Department of English Arts and Languages, at the University “Des Frères Mentouri”, Constantine. The first questionnaire measured students’ writing experience outside the classroom, and the second measured their levels of anxiety during the writing exam, then, the two sets of scores obtained were correlated to check the hypothesis. The results show that a big percentage of the participants have little or no experience of writing outside the classroom, and this latter was found to be totally independent from the levels of anxiety they usually experience during their writing exams. |
