prepositions and the usefulness of Contrastive Analysis as a pedagogical tool. It aims
at finding out whether a Contrastive Analysis of English and Arabic prepositional
systems helps in making students aware of the differences and the similarities as well
as the misleading similarities between English and Arabic prepositions. In order to test
the hypothesis and to reach the aim of this research work, Second Year LMD (Licence,
Master, Doctorat diploma system) students studying English as a foreign language at
Mentouri University of Constantine are chosen. In this study, empirical evidence is
gathered through an Error Analysis of the students’ compositions written by a sample
of 71 students. The results revealed that these students use wrong prepositions if
equivalents are not used in their mother tongue, omit prepositions if equivalents are not
required in their mother tongue, and use prepositions in wrong grammatical
constructions because the latter can be used in their mother tongue. On the basis of
these results, it is recommended that a Contrastive Analysis between English and
Arabic prepositions is needed to raise the students’ awareness of these problemsDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=6612 Contrastive analysis of english and arabic prepositions [texte imprimé] / Hasna Lamis Bouchenek, Auteur ; Farida Abderrahhim, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2011 . - 56 f. ; 30 cm.

Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Contrastive Analysis foreign Language English Foreign language . Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : English foreign language learners usually face problems in the English grammar; especially in
the use of prepositions due to several reasons, one of which is the influence of the mother
tongue. This work aims at investigating the influence of Standard Arabic on the use of the
English prepositions in, on, and at among learners of English as a foreign language. The
research study attempts to identify whether these learners are facing difficulties and misusing
the English prepositions due to standard Arabic interference or not.. It is hypothesized that “if
EFL learners were negatively influenced by their Standard Arabic, they would misuse the
English prepositions “in , on , at”. For that purpose a grammar test was given to test the
students‟ use of prepositions at sentence and discourse levels. In order to check the credibility
the research hypothesis, a random sample of 50 students from the total population of first year
English students at the University of Frères Mentouri Constantine 1 was selected. Thus the
results of the test has shown that first year students do transfer negatively from the Standard
Arabic and this can be the reason behind their errors concerning the use of the prepositions (in
, on , at)Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=15212 The Influence of Standard Arabic on EFL Learners’ Use of the English Prepositions ‘in , at’ , on’ The case study of First Year Students of English at the University of Frère Mentouri, Constantine 1 [texte imprimé] / Meriem Zebiri, Auteur ; Salima Selmen, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2021 . - 88 f. ; 30 cm.
