Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Applied Language Studies Ellipsis English Arabic Translation Practice Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This paper represents a contrastive study of ellipsis in English and Arabic literary texts. It explores the area of translation from a descriptive point of view. The study explores the notion of ellipsis as a cohesive device with regard to the Arabic translated version of Hemingway’s ‘The old Man and the Sea’. It attempts to discover to what extent the translator has been able to translate elliptical items and whether he has preserved the author’s style in the target text. Some extracts have been compared and analyzed in terms of elliptical elements translatability; i.e. how ellipsis in English has been translated into Arabic, and what are the similarities and differences that lie between the two. The research work reveals that the translator in general was able to render the elliptical instances of the original text in Arabic because of the evident functional similarity of ellipsis. Some techniques were used to compensate partially for the loss in the source text. In general, the translator was mostly faithful to Hemingway’s inclusion of ellipsis as a feature of style. Titre : Contrastive analysis of english and arabic prepositions Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Hasna Lamis Bouchenek, Auteur ; Farida Abderrahhim, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2011 Importance : 56 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Language Sciences Contrastive Analysis English Arabic Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This study investigates the effects of Standard Arabic on the use of English
prepositions and the usefulness of Contrastive Analysis as a pedagogical tool. It aims
at finding out whether a Contrastive Analysis of English and Arabic prepositional
systems helps in making students aware of the differences and the similarities as well
as the misleading similarities between English and Arabic prepositions. In order to test
the hypothesis and to reach the aim of this research work, Second Year LMD (Licence,
Master, Doctorat diploma system) students studying English as a foreign language at
Mentouri University of Constantine are chosen. In this study, empirical evidence is
gathered through an Error Analysis of the students’ compositions written by a sample
of 71 students. The results revealed that these students use wrong prepositions if
equivalents are not used in their mother tongue, omit prepositions if equivalents are not
required in their mother tongue, and use prepositions in wrong grammatical
constructions because the latter can be used in their mother tongue. On the basis of
these results, it is recommended that a Contrastive Analysis between English and
Arabic prepositions is needed to raise the students’ awareness of these problemsDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=6612 Contrastive analysis of english and arabic prepositions [texte imprimé] / Hasna Lamis Bouchenek, Auteur ; Farida Abderrahhim, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2011 . - 56 f. ; 30 cm.

Titre : Difficulties faced by Algerian students when translating English prepositions : The case of third year LMD students of English language at Mentouri University-Constantine Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Saloua Bouaouiche, Auteur ; Sarra Bourrich, Auteur ; Riad Belouahem, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2011 Importance : 57 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Applied Linguistics Difficulties Students English LMD Students Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The present study deals with investigating the problem faced by learners of English as a
second language when using or translating prepositions from their source language to the
target one, or vice versa. This study is divided into two parts: A theoretical chapter and a
practical one. The former begins with some definitions and theories which are related to the
topic being investigated, such as: Translation, transfer, Contrastive and error analysis, and
prepositions which are the core of this study. The practical part is based on a sample of twenty
sentences that contain prepositions translated by thirty third year English L.M.D students, at
Mentouri University-Constantine. These translated sentences are analysed to conclude that
learners of English as a second language transfer either positively or negatively from their
source language when using prepositions.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3424 Difficulties faced by Algerian students when translating English prepositions : The case of third year LMD students of English language at Mentouri University-Constantine [texte imprimé] / Saloua Bouaouiche, Auteur ; Sarra Bourrich, Auteur ; Riad Belouahem, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2011 . - 57 f. ; 30 cm.

Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Applied Language Studies Difficulties Students Translation English Polysemous Using Dictionary Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The present research attempts to investigate the difficulties that English second year students
meet when translating English polysemous words into Arabic using the bilingual dictionary. In
other words, this current research is concerned with the assessment of the bilingual
dictionaries, used by second year students, in terms of rendering English polysemous words.
So, the hypothesis that we set at the beginning of this research is, if the bilingual dictionaries
used by second year students do not provide the linguistic context, then students will not
succeed in the translation of polysemous words. The data were gathered by means of two
research tools namely, a test and a questionnaire that were administered to a sample of English
second year students. The analysis of the data confirms the truth of the aforementioned
hypothesis because the examined students failed in the translation of polysemous words which
show that their bilingual dictionaries do not provide the linguistic context. The obtained data
confirm also that the bilingual dictionary is not a helpful tool for students to translate
polysemous words as, in most cases, it misleads them to choose the right equivalents, due to
the fact that they are not accompanied with examples that show the learner the use of each
equivalent.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3466 Difficulties met by students in the translation of english polysemous words using the bilingual dictionary : A case study of second year students of english [texte imprimé] / Houda Bellir, Auteur ; Menouba Lounis, Auteur ; Riad Belouahem, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2011 . - 86 f. ; 30 cm.

each country. This character creates a kind of challenge for people who are interested in
translating humour or one of its types. The researcher of the present study will shed some
light on the difficulties that Second year Master students of English, at the Department of
English, Brothers Mentouri University face while translating humour from English to Arabic
The researcher hypothesised that: students who have enough cultural knowledge background
are able to translate humour correctly better than students who have no cultural knowledge
background. For testing the hypothesise a questionnaire was given to twenty-eight Second
year Master students. Based on the results obtained, the study shows that cultural differences
between English and Arabic pose the major problem for students so that students must have
enough cultural background of both languages and use the appropriate strategies to translate
humour correctlyDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=13228 Problems in Translating Humour from English into Arabic: The Case of Second Year Master Students of Linguistics and Applied Languages Studies [texte imprimé] / Manel Dahmani, Auteur ; Ouided Sekhri, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2020 . - 68 f. ; 30cm.
