The aim of the present study is to investigate the role of using language games in teaching science vocabulary on reading comprehension of scientific texts. In this respect, the underlying hypothesis is: if ESP teachers use language games in teaching science vocabulary, learners will comprehend better when reading scientific texts. To confirm or reject this hypothesis, data was gathered by designing two questionnaires to teachers of ESP teachers and first year students. Both questionnaires aimed at investigating teachers and students’ attitudes towards the role of using language games in teaching science vocabulary on reading comprehension of scientific texts. Data driven from the questionnaires have confirmed that there is a relation between language games and reading comprehension of scientific texts which affirm the research hypothesis. Thus, using language games as a technique to teach science vocabulary is effective Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=4411 Teachers and students’ attitudes towards the role of using language games in teaching science vocabulary on reading comprehension of scientific texts : A case study of first Yyar students of english university des Frères Mentouri, Constantine [texte imprimé] / Moufida Boumahrat, Auteur ; Chiraz Zeghbib, Auteur ; Nora Boudehane, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2017 . - 79 f. ; 30 cm.

Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Language Sciences Language Games Grammar Rules First year Pupils Quasi Experimental Study. Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Grammar is one basic area of the English language learning process, since its mastery is related mainly to the successful use of grammar rules. However, English Foreign Language learners consider the learning of English grammar as a tedious aspect which challenges them in their attempt to reach that mastery. The ways learners are exposed to grammar points have an influence on their performance. As a result, it becomes necessary to seek for alternative techniques that add variant characteristics to the English learning classes like the exciting and the motivational elements which play a significant role in changing the learners’ attitudes towards learning grammar. Integrating language games is one technique that can satisfy this need. This study aims at showing the Importance of language games, and assessing their effectiveness in facilitating the process of teaching/learning grammar to First Year Secondary School pupils. To achieve this aim, two means of research were used. First, a quasi experimental study was conducted: a pre-test and a post were administered to 34 pupils at Moufdi Zakaria Secondary School in Benbadis, Constantine, who were divided randomly into an experimental group and a control group. After having taken the pre-test about the superlative form and the prepositions of place as examples of grammar points, the experimental received instruction about their grammar knowledge through two language games during two sessions (one game in every session for each grammar lesson), and the control group was taught the same content (the superlative form and prepositions of place), but following the teacher’s way of teaching grammar rules. After that, both groups were given a post-test, and the data collected were compared and analyzed. The resultsthe test revealed that the subjects in the experimental group performed better than those in the control group. In addition, it clearly showed that language games are an efficient technique to enhance pupils’ performance of grammar use. The second means of research was the Teachers’ Questionnaire devoted to teachers of English in the same Secondary School. It explored the teachers’ perceptions of the importance of using language games to teach grammar. The results showed that employing language games in grammar classes is very beneficial since they motivate pupils and make them more involved in the classroom activities. Thus, from the results obtained from the quasi experiment and the teachers’ questionnaire, it was clear that the research hypothesis, if First Year Secondary School learners are exposed to language games as a teaching technique, their grammar knowledge will improve, was confirmed. questionnaire addressed to teachers to explore their attitudes towards the importance
of language games as a technique to teach vocabulary. It is based also on a students’
questionnaire to obtain their opinions of whether language games help in acquiring
new words. In addition, an interview was conducted with a few students after
participating in a game in the classroom in order to check their awareness about the
role of games in facilitating and creating a good classroom atmosphere for learning,
and if they became motivated during the game. The results indicate that language
games have a good effect on learning new vocabulary, which can enhance students’
ability to memorize words, encourage their interaction, and improve their
