Résumé : |
Writing is considered to be a very important skill in the field of education which
learners need to master. However, effective writing does not require only a thorough
understanding of the linguistic system; learners are in need to be aware of the
importance of achieving a high level of accuracy in their products through the use of
the different types of cohesive devices. Learners need to make reference to the
different text ties that will boost their level in writing and improves the quality of
their written products. This entails to check what really lies behind the difficulty of
the writing process and to what extent the learners are aware of the cohesive devices
and their use in writing. This makes a good starting point for our research. The aim of
the present study is to find out to what extent the use of cohesive devices (lexical and
grammatical devices) enhances the learners' writing skill. In order to check our
hypothesis, “using cohesive devices enhances the learners' writing skill”, we
administered two questionnaires, one for Second Year students at the university of
Constantine1 and one for the teachers of Written Expression. The results of the two
questionnaires indicate that the use of cohesive devices affects positively the students'
level in writing: Second Year students as well as the teachers of Written Expression
agreed on the important role of cohesive devices in enhancing the learners' writing
skill. Both the students of Second Year and the teachers' of Written Expression
revealed the fact that the major problem students have when they are given a writing
task is at the level of time organization which prevents the students from making their
piece of writing cohesive and coherent which in turn makes a big challenge for the
students. |
