The British modern society of the twentieth century knew the emergence of an
elite of female writers. Having the aim of modifying the traditional modes of writing,
they adopted new ones. The fictional device known as stream of consciousness became
the main technique which reveals the characters‘ inwardness. The Waves of Virginia
Woolf is a novel that depended extensively on such technique. The present dissertation
aims at exploring the interweaving themes of the rhythm of silence and the narration of
interiority. For this purpose, the present work deals with the uses of narration of
interiority through the analysis of two philosophical concepts presented in
phenomenology and epistemology, focusing on Virginia Woolf as an artist woman. The
work also probes the rhythm of silence by investigating its narrative techniques in
relation to being and knowledge. As a modernist woman writer, Virginia Woolf goes
through her psychological depressions by creating a new style that reveals her strength |
