Résumé : |
The aim of this study is to investigate the role of Gothic elements in the famous
English novel Jane Eyre of Charlotte Bronte. The study focuses on how Bronte uses
the gothic features to reveal women’s suffering and oppression during the Victorian
era. Through the character of Jane, Bronte symbolizes her anger and dissatisfaction
with the social prejudice against women. Jane Eyre is an example and model of the
Victorian Lady who endures the social hard conditions. But, Bronte exploits the
mystery tool to go deeper into women’s souls and reveal their hidden conflicts and
desires that the society soberly wanted women to hide. Actually, Bronte does not aim
at evoking terror by the use of gothic elements she instead aims to capture women’s
societal problems |
