This research aims at analyzing the effect of using dictionaries on the reading comprehension
of Master 1 one students in Applied Language, Department of English Arts and Language,
University of Constantine 1. The hypothesis is that if students use dictionaries while reading,
understanding the material will be better and their vocabulary knowledge will improve. Data
are gathered using a questionnaire administered to a sample of first year Master students. The
results show that using a dictionary while reading can be of great help in comprehension and
in vocabulary acquisition. Some suggestions are made concerning how to use dictionaries in
the most efficient way to achieve these two purposes. |
