Language Sciences READING Strategy IN FACILITATING |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The idea that reading aloud should take place in the classroom becomes more
widespread; researchers claim that through reading aloud, students comprehend much better.
In other words, reading aloud leads to a significantly higher level of comprehension than
silent reading.
The present work aims at showing that reading aloud can be a best pedagogical strategy to
develop not only the students’ vocabulary and reading comprehension but also many other
reading skills.
In this study, two means of research are administered to first year LMD students at Mentouri
University- Constantine to get information about the impact of reading aloud on the students’
comprehension- a test and a questionnaire.
The analyses of the reading test and the students’ questionnaire showed that reading aloud as
an important pedagogical strategy enhances the students’ comprehension. |

Language Science Reading Strategy Memorization Vocabulary |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
This research aims at investigating the effect of reading on the memorization of
vocabulary. Then, this study is designed to examine the degree of improvement learners
can achieve in vocabulary when they are exposed to more words and new expressions.
To reach this aim, we relied on questionnaires as means of research. Two questionnaires
were given to ten (10) English teachers and forty five (45) second year EFL students at
Mila University Center. The learners’ questionnaire aimed at investigating whether
learners at Mila university center read or not, what techniques they use to understand
new vocabulary items and whether learners use these words in their production. The
teachers’ questionnaire aimed at investigating whether teachers use reading materials to
present new words in their classes. It checks also whether learners use these new words
in their production. The data collected from these questionnaires confirm that if learners
learn a new vocabulary item when they read, they will use it later in their production.
That is to say, the hypothesis of this research is proved. Thus, reading can enhance
vocabulary acquisition. |

Language Sciences Writing Reading teaching |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
Reading is one of the most essential skills required for learning any language. For this reason, the principal point of this study is to know the perceptions of both teachers and students at the department of English at Constantine 1 University about reading as a tool for enhancing the writing skill. Successful writing requires a rich vocabulary stock which in turn is achieved through much practice of reading. Thus, this research work is based on the hypothesis that Third-year LMD students of English at University of Constantine (1) have positive attitudes towards the use of reading as a major vocabulary source and a helpful means in enhancing their writing performance. For achieving the objectives of the present study, we relied on two questionnaires; one is suggested for students to probe their views about reading and the second one is suggested to teachers of Written Expression to get an idea about their perceptions about reading as an important element for vocabulary enrichment and writing improvement. The results obtained revealed that both Third-year LMD students and Written Expression teachers have positive attitudes towards reading as an important factor in writing improvement. |

Language Sciences Studies Effects Pictures on Pupils Reading |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
Reading is a substantial element in the teaching of EFl, since it develops good language proficiency for learners, especially if it is achieved by its main purpose “comprehension”, and particularly for young learners. The aim of the present study is to examine the extent to which the use of pictures would enhance pupils‟ reading comprehension achievement, based on the hypothesis which claims that teachers‟ use of pictures would significantly contribute in enhancing students‟ reading comprehension. To confirm this hypothesis, we handed out a questionnaire to 12 middle school teachers of English in four middle schools in Constantine. We also tested pupils‟ reading comprehension achievement through an experiment where the control group was given a text without pictures and the experimental group was given a text accompanied by illustrative pictures. The results obtained from the questionnaire and the experiment confirmed the claim that pictures are effective teaching tools which can improve pupils‟ reading comprehension. |
