This research aims at investigating the strategies used by professional translators in the
process of translating television commercial headlines from English into Arabic related to
advertisement. For this purpose, a set of parallel corpora are selected to conduct this study.
They are made of fourteen television advertising commercial headlines in English translated
into Arabic. The analysis of the data from the source and target versions of this type of
discourse shows that various linguistic devices have been used such as stylistic, lexical and
structural devices. Furthermore, this corpus-based study reveals that translators use a variety
of strategies to render advertising discourse such as adaptation, substitution, addition and
omission. |
