The aim of the present study is to examine the extent to which the use of pictures would enhance pupils‟ reading comprehension achievement, based on the hypothesis which claims that teachers‟ use of pictures would significantly contribute in enhancing students‟ reading comprehension. To confirm this hypothesis, we handed out a questionnaire to 12 middle school teachers of English in four middle schools in Constantine. We also tested pupils‟ reading comprehension achievement through an experiment where the control group was given a text without pictures and the experimental group was given a text accompanied by illustrative pictures. The results obtained from the questionnaire and the experiment confirmed the claim that pictures are effective teaching tools which can improve pupils‟ reading comprehension.
