The purpose of this study is to get some insights into the difficulties in rendering the figurative meaning of vernacular idiom in both languages. It attempts to find out the reason why learners of English are unable to achieve the appropriate equivalent. The choice of this subject is motivated by the fact that idioms are difficult to translate and to convey the Algerian vernacular culture to the world by trying to interpret such aspects of Algerian vernacular language. In order to check the hypothesis underpinning this research work, a test was administered to a sample of first year students to evaluate their capacity in translating Algerian vernacular idiom as a ST and as a TT. The test consists of twelve idioms to translate into Algerian vernacular language and ten vernacular idioms to be translated into English.
