Résumé :	This research intends to investigate the influence of culture on the learners‟ understanding of some cultural based proverbs. It attempts to investigate whether students of English in the department of foreign languages in the university of Constantine 1 are aware of the significant role that is played by culture, during the process of learning English. To answer this question, a questionnaire and a test have been submitted to third year students of English. The obtained have shown that there is a relation between learner‟s level of understanding the proverbs and their knowledge about the English culture. These results come to confirm the research hypothesis that third year students are not familiar enough with the culture of the English.
