Résumé : |
This research aims at investigating the effect of reading on the memorization of
vocabulary. Then, this study is designed to examine the degree of improvement learners
can achieve in vocabulary when they are exposed to more words and new expressions.
To reach this aim, we relied on questionnaires as means of research. Two questionnaires
were given to ten (10) English teachers and forty five (45) second year EFL students at
Mila University Center. The learners’ questionnaire aimed at investigating whether
learners at Mila university center read or not, what techniques they use to understand
new vocabulary items and whether learners use these words in their production. The
teachers’ questionnaire aimed at investigating whether teachers use reading materials to
present new words in their classes. It checks also whether learners use these new words
in their production. The data collected from these questionnaires confirm that if learners
learn a new vocabulary item when they read, they will use it later in their production.
That is to say, the hypothesis of this research is proved. Thus, reading can enhance
vocabulary acquisition. |
