Résumé : |
The present dissertation attempts to examine First year Master students’ awareness of the role of context in translating polysemous words from English into Arabic. It aims at confirming two hypotheses: if students take the context into consideration, they will select the right sense of polysemous words; and if they know the different meanings of polysemic words they will translate them successfully. This study is divided into three chapters: two theoretical and one practical. In order to check the validity of the hypotheses, two research tools are used: a questionnaire and a test. They are administered to a randomly selected sample of thirty students. The results obtained reveal that the students are aware of the role of context; they take it into consideration in the translation process. Furthermore, it is also proved that knowing the different meanings of a polysemic word provides a more accurate translation. Eventually, some pedagogical recommendations are given to promote the students’ performance in translation |
