This research aims at investigating the problems faced by students in the process of translating texts
and slogans related to advertisements from English into Arabic. Further, it sheds some light on the
strategies used by students. The present study will, particularly focus on cosmetic advertisements. A
test and a questionnaire are used to conduct this research. The test is made up of fourteen slogans and
one text, in English, which a sample of forty students of Master one from Constantine 1 University is
supposed to translate. They are also asked to answer the questions they have been provided with. It is
hypothesized that if students are aware of lexis, style and the cultural aspect of cosmetic
advertisements, they will achieve an efficient translation. The obtained results reveal the students’
ignorance of the vocabulary of such a field of translation. Besides, they are not paying attention to
style which is a major prerequisite in advertisements |
