Résumé :	No one can ignore the importance of a given culture in both learning and teaching a given foreign language. Among the methods one can learn culture is through its proverbs. The present research is intended to investigate the students’ familiarity and unfamiliarity with English proverbs. It takes the specific case of the first year Master students at Mentouri University, Constantine. To achieve the aim of the research a test involving forty four students and a questionnaire involving twenty teachers, were carried out for the collection of the information on the students’ knowledge and familiarity with this type of English sayings
