The aim of this work is to see whether applied languages’ studies third year students have a rich terminological background that includes the basic terms and expressions which enable them to work as interpreters and translators in the oil and gas industry. In addition, the research is carried out also to figure out reasons behind that level so be it. The study sheds light on two important concepts. The first one is business English focusing on English for oil and gas industry. The second one is interpretation and translation in this industry. These two concepts are related to each other; any interpreter or translator in the petroleum sector should master English for oil and gas industry to be able to work effectively and professionally. The field study of this research is conducted through the use of a translation test from English into Arabic and a questionnaire. The test will help us to investigate the students’ level and the questionnaire to find out the reasons behind that level.
