The translation of such kind of political texts poses a challenge for students when dealing with lexical items. These translation problems involve the following items: polysemous and synonymous words, collocations, compounds, proper names, phrasal verbs, and idioms. In order to scrutinize these problems, thirty students were asked to translate a political text taken from media into Arabic. This study focuses on the problems that students face in dealing with the translation of lexical items, and how these problems result in the mistranslation of the source text. The research findings confirmed the hypothesis. They have clearly shown that students do have problems in translating political texts of media, especially those of lexical items. Therefore, students usually mistranslate such kind of political texts.
