argumentative writing. The study hypothesized that, in writing classes, cohesion is most of
the time not sufficiently addressed. As a result of such neglect, students will resort to use
repetition as the only cohesive devise. To test this hypothesis, textual analysis is applied to
20 argumentative paragraphs written by first-year students at the department of English,
Mentouri University. The study concludes by confirming the hypothesis that students
overuse repetition with all its manifestations with coordination and word repetition are the
frequently used ones. This is mainly caused by lack of instruction in EFL writing classes
which results into a transfer from Arabic L1 as these features are known to be the
landmarks of Arabic language.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=4144 An investigation into the use of repetition as a cohesive device in EFL Students’ argumentative writing : The case of 1st year licence students at Constantine 1 University [texte imprimé] / Lamia Khalfallah, Auteur ; Fairouz Souli, Auteur ; Selma Sia, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2017 . - 47 f. ; 30 cm.

Intelligence Academic Achievement.Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The present study is conducted to explore the correlation between Emotional Intelligence
(EI)and academic achievement. This topic has attracted a lot of attention in the
academicliterature. Moreover, it has been observed that EI affects the person’s individual
andprofessional success. To examine the correlation between EI and academic achievement, it
ishypothesized that (NH) there is no correlation between EFL First Year students’ EI scores
andtheir grades. In an attempt to test the hypothesis, a sample of 24 First Year students from
the Department of English, University of Constantine 1 are chosen;an EI test is used as a
means to gather the data. The results obtained from the test are analyzedand correlated to their
grades. Results of the Pearson Correlation which was applied toexamine the relationship
between students EI test scores and their grades show that: r = 0.9rejects the NH in favour of
the AH which stipulates that there is a significant strong positivecorrelation between students

Communicative Competence (ICC).Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The present study is conducted to explore the relationship between Intercultural
Communicative Competence (ICC) and social media exposure. ICC is described as the
ability to communicate with individuals from different cultural backgrounds effectively
and appropriately. Social media provides a platform that facilitates intercultural
interactions and gives free access to culturally bound elements. As the relationship between
ICC and social media is not often explored, this study brings this area into the limelight
focusing on the Algerian context by exploring whether there is a correlation between
students of English ICC and social media exposure. In the pursuit to answer these
questions, two research instruments are adopted: A questionnaire and an ICC test designed
using Google forms and administered online concurrently to Master Two students of
English, Constantine 1 University. The findings of the study reveal that students are using
social media daily for more than four hours for multiple reasons. One of these reasons is
mainly to get access to foreign content which inevitably, helped them for gaining a better
understanding as well as develop better attitudes towards foreign cultures.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=13509 A Correlational Study of EFL Students' Intercultural Communicative Competence and Social Media Exposure The Case of Master 2 Students at Constantine 1 University [texte imprimé] / Abdelhafid Djendli, Auteur ; Selma Sia, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2020 . - 74 f. ; 30cm.

Academic Achievement.Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Academic achievement is the indicator of how students perform in different aspects of
their learning. It has been recognized that academic achievement varies from one student
to another and affected by many factors including socio-cultural backgrounds, cognitive
abilities, and study habits. The latter contribute significantly in the development of
knowledge, and perceptual capacities, which ultimately influence the students’
performance positively. The present study is conducted to explore the study habits adopted
by EFL Master Two students to accomplish their short or long-term academic goals. It
also aims at finding out the relationship between these habits and their academic
achievement. For this purpose, it is hypothesized that EFL Master 2 students who have
good study habits also have high grades. In an attempt to test the hypothesis, a sample of
24 Second Year Master Applied Linguistics students from the Department of English,
University of Constantine 1 are purposefully chosen; a questionnaire is used as a means to
gather the needed data. The results obtained from the questionnaire are analyzed and
compared to their grades. Results unveil a number of study habits developed by EFL
Master Two students. Some of these habits correlate strongly with students’ grades such
as organizing limited study groups, attending classes with different teachers to enlarge
one’s knowledge, preparing for exams using summaries, watching online courses, and
avoiding procrastination. In the meantime, other study habits do not correlate strongly
with students’ grade. Including, classroom attendance, individual assignments
accomplishment, weekly schedule planning, and lecture preparation.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=13876 A Correlational Study of EFL Students’ Study Habits and Their Academic Achievement The Case of Master 2 Students at Constantine 1 University [texte imprimé] / Hanene Aissani, Auteur ; Selma Sia, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2020 . - 69 f. ; 30cm.

Titre : A Correlational Study of EFLStudents' Writing Performance and Speaking Performance. Case Study of 3rd year students, at Constantine 1 University Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Feriel Mehdid, Auteur ; Selma Sia, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2021 Importance : 83 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie electronique PDF disponible au BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : The Speaking and Writing Skill Feedback Topical Knowledge. Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The present research investigates the possible relationship between students’ oral
performance and writing performance. To appropriately address this issue, two questions
were proposed, the first one; is there is a correlation between the oral performance and
writing performance? The second one; do students perform better in speaking or in
writing? Eventually, two hypotheses were generated, the alternative hypothesis which
states that there is a relationship between students’ oral performance and their writing
performance, and the null hypothesis that denies the existence of this relation. To properly
answer our research questions and test the hypotheses we needed a well-constructed study.
Hence, 40 students of Third Year from the Department of English of Constantine 1
University were selected to serve as the sample of this research. The data were gathered by
means of a questionnaire and a correlational test. The students’ questionnaire was used
mainly to gather data regarding students’ attitude, problems, and factors that could
influence their oral and writing performance. The second tool was the correlational test. It
was the most important step that would give the study more meaning. Grades of the same
students who participated in the questionnaire in the modules of written and oral
expression were put into a test. Ultimately, after analyzing the data from the questionnaire
and the correlational test, the findings have revealed that, Firstly; there is a correlation
between the writing performance and the oral performance of students. Secondly, no
significant difference in performance was reported between students’ oral and writing
performance. All of which led to the denial of the null hypothesis and the acceptance of the
alternative hypothesis.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=15326 A Correlational Study of EFLStudents' Writing Performance and Speaking Performance.
