This work was done in an attempt to have more insights into the effectiveness of using
communicative gaming activities as a tool for developing the students’ oral performance.
Taking into account the various struggles students face while intending to speak, from feeling
uncomfortable to getting shy…etc, this drove our attention to the significance of this issue. In
the process of coming across a solution, we attempted to carry on this study to test, based on
the teachers’ and students’ opinions, the effectiveness of the communicative games as a
strategy to improve the students’ speaking skill. Hence, we hypothesized that if
communicative games are used as part of classroom speaking activities, students’ oral
production would be enhanced. In order to carry out the research, we administered two
questionnaires designed for second year students of English and teachers of Oral Expression
at the Department of English, at the University of Constantine. The most compelling evidence
of the obtained results was that students and teachers at the said Department appreciate the
role of communication games and do consider them as helpful strategies to develop the
students’ oral performance. |
