Résumé : |
Due to the importance of the speaking skill in educational settings, it was necessary to conduct the present research that aims at investigating language anxiety and its impact on Third Year students' -at the University of Mentouri Constantine- speaking and performance . Thus, it is hypothesized that if teachers used more of the humanistic strategies such as establishing a relaxing atmosphere and help their learners face and overcome their fear and anxiety issues while performing, they will obtain enough motivation to practice comfortably their oral performance and demonstrate their natural competence. The hypothesis was evaluated by an analytical study inferred from the results of two questionnaires: The first addressed to teachers, and the second to Third Year students. The in-depth investigation of the findings obtained through the analysed data revealed that anxiety has indeed a very negative impact on the quality of student’s performance due to confidence issues and teachers’ negative evaluation. It has also been remarked that the more learners are anxious the more they fail to speak the target language (TL) in front of others, even if they are skilled in the language and have a strong personality outside the classroom. Moreover, it demonstrated the crucial role of teachers to fulfil their tasks relying on an appropriate manner in teaching the spoken language enjoyably and successfully. Besides, it confirmed that if the classroom atmosphere is relaxing, students will certainly gain enough motivation to practice comfortably their oral performance and demonstrate their real competence. Accordingly, the hypothesis has been validated. |
