This study aims therefore at highlighting and finding out the influence of French on English and the extension of the aberrations that result from translating false friends. The research data gathered through a test are divided into two parts; the first part consists of translating false friends from French into English and the second part includes translating false friends from English into French. The research data analysis is carried out to confirm the hypothesis of this study which is: if learners identify the similarities and the differences between the source language and the target language, they can elude from falling in the pitfall of false friends. After the treatment of the detected errors, the results reveal that the main reason behind students’ inaccuracy in translating false friends is the influence of French (their first foreign language) on learning English (second foreign language). This case constitutes a critical problem for the learners. Based on the results achieved, some recommendations are proposed to teachers and learners of English to manage such a problem.
