For this aim, we hypothesized that if teachers use audiovisual aids such as videos, pictures, and computers, the students ’speaking proficiency would be enhanced. In order to examine our research hypothesis, two questionnaires were administered: one questionnaire to first year students of English at the University of Mentouri Brothers-Constantine; and another questionnaire for teachers of Oral Expression, to explore their views about the use of audiovisual materials in the teaching and learning process. The results confirm the research hypothesis that the use of audiovisual aids in learning a foreign language truly improves the students’ speaking skill and motivates them to participate and, hence, develops their speaking abilities.
