Résumé : |
The aim behind the present research is to check whether the students are familiar with the use
of lexical cohesive devices in writing essays. It also aims at finding the importance of using
lexical cohesive devices to produce an effective cohesive discourse. Thus, it is hypothesized
that using lexical cohesive devices in a good way will boost the students’ writing and
produce an effective cohesive discourse. The hypothesis is evaluated by a descriptive study
inferred from the results of the students’ test. They show that the use of lexical cohesive
devices by first year master students of English at the department of foreign languages,
Mentouri University- Constantine is quite enough. But, some inappropriate uses of devices
are easily noticed in comparison with the total use of those cohesive devices. Furthermore,
some lexical cohesive devices are widely used but inappropriately. Some of them are less
used but appropriately. The students’ use of lexical cohesive devices mainly appears in the
use of repetition since it is common among by the students. However, most of repeating terms
are used inappropriately. Moreover, it is noticed that in each type of lexical cohesive devices
used, there is always a predominant device. |

Language Studies Success El Ziadi Translating Foreign Culture |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The present study is an English-Arabic Comparative study. It is an attempt to account for the
translational strategies used in the translation of the English book “Stop Worrying and Start
living” by Carnegie into Arabic " دع القلق و ابدأ الحياة " by El Ziadi. The study explores the two
areas: the good choice of the translation methods used in the translation and translator‟s
faithfulness to the original English book. In addition to that, the choice of the topic has been
based on the fact that it had a great influence on the Arab readers. This descriptive
comparative study has been carried out to investigate the way El Ziadi managed to translate
cultural differences, ideas, customs, and traditions of the source book into Arabic. “Stop
Worrying and Start Living” is an English book which contains solutions to worrying
problems and its Arabic translation constitutes the data of research. These data have been
analyzed in the form of a descriptive comparison between the original and the translated titles,
names, sentences…etc. In his version, the translator used different strategies and methods in
the translation and was successful in translating the massage of the English book faithfully to
the Arab reader. |

Applied Linguistics TRANSLATING ALLAH’S MEANINGS |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The present research aims to shed light on the role of the context in determining the
accurate meanings of some debatable Allah's Names as given in the holy Quran when
translated into English. This research attempts, thus, to analyse three selected
translations of different sources – the King Fahd complex, Yusuf Ali, and Pickthall- to
check whether or not the translations of Allah’s Names have reached satisfactory
interpretations. The study is composed of two chapters; the first one is theoretical and
represents an overview of translation and its strategies. The second one is practical and
is devoted to the discussion and analysis of the three selected translations. The results
obtained have revealed that the context plays a crucial role in identifying the intended
meaning. However, it has been found out that the lack of exact equivalence of religious
terms, namely Quranic terms, still represents an obstacle in converting Allah’s Names
into English. It has also been found out that the translations of Muslim translators are
more faithful than non Muslim ones. |

Applied Language Studies Translating |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
This study aims to investigate the difficulties encountered by Master One students of Applied
Language Studies and their ability in translating metaphorical expressions from the Holy
Quran. The main issue in the research is metaphor, its conceptual meaning and different types
and theories. This is because metaphor is considered as the most used figurative image in the
language of the Holy Quran. To achieve that aim a test consisting of fourteen verses was
given to Master One students of English who were divided into two groups: a control group,
and an experimental group. Each group contains fifteen students, the subject students were
asked to translate the Quranic verses into English. The results of the analysis of the test have
shown that the students who got an explanation about the meaning of the verses, have well
performance in translating the Quranic metaphors, better than the students who have no
explanation. So that they have faced difficulties in understanding the meaning of the verses
and making their equivalents in English. This confirmed the hypothesis which stated that if
Master One Students of English as a foreign language had some basic notions on the
meanings of the holy Quran; they would manage to translate Quranic metaphors into English |
