Jane Eyre contributed to the feminist question through her quest for defining an identity that is hers and gaining an autonomous thinking. In this regard, this dissertation studies the social and historical backgrounds of the Victorian era, of women status, in addition to women’s portrayal in literary works of the era. The present research also involves an overview about madness as a symbol in feminist literature, and the anxiety of authorship in the nineteenth century. This research aims to shed light on the characteristics of the Victorian society, gender role and women position at that time. I intend to scrutinize women’s status in literature and the quest of women writers in the nineteenth century. Of particular interest to this study is the uniqueness of Jane Eyre as a model of a protagonist whose strong and independent character was formed under a nexus of male characters’ impact on her. Last but not least an analogy between the Jane Eyre and Bertha Mason, the mad woman in the attic is issued and deemed necessary to understand women’s subjection to psychological torments in a patriarchal environment Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5002 A case study of jane eyre as a new model of womanhood in the victorian era [texte imprimé] / Meryem Boulfelfel, Auteur ; Imane Benkhelifa, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE (Route Ain el bey, BP 325, ALGERIE) : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2017 . - 57 f. ; 30 cm.

Titre : Decadence in oscarwilde’s the picture of dorian gray : Lord henry’s hedonism and dorian gray’s narcissism Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Sara Belkhalfa, Auteur ; Imane Benkhelifa, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2015 Importance : 59 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : British and American Studies Decadence Fin De Siècle Gothicism Victorian England Aestheticism Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This study aims at exploring the relation between the theme of decadence and Dorian
gray, the protagonist of Oscar Wilde’s only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. The novel
belongs to gothic literature which is characterized by the use of horror, decay and gloomy
atmosphere. The novel establishes Wilde’s philosophy of art. Devoted to the school of
thought of Aestheticism and a mode of sensibility, Wilde believed that art possesses an
essential value. This attitude was revolutionary in Victorian England, where people believed
that art was just a carrier of morality. Decadence could be argued to be a faith instead of an
enlightenment movement, resulting in protests against realities, society and morals by means
of the Fin de siècle corrupted life styles. Wilde was able to create the character of Dorian
Gray who was responsible of his own destruction. The thesis will take as an issue whether
Dorian’s decadence is only due to him being influenced by Lord Henry, or whether there are
some underlying reasons. Through shedding light on the picture of Dorian gray, I claim that
Dorian’s downfall is also the outcome of his vanity and his narcissism. I attempt to Test this
hypothesis with the use of psychoanalytical approach to interpret the psyche of the main
characters as well as to interpret the painting.I will equally provide textual analysis to reveal
that Lord Henry’s bad influence on the protagonist was indeed behind his collapse, yet a
narcissistic, selfish Dorian is also at the origins of his demiseDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=6209 Decadence in oscarwilde’s the picture of dorian gray : Lord henry’s hedonism and dorian gray’s narcissism [texte imprimé] / Sara Belkhalfa, Auteur ; Imane Benkhelifa, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE (Route Ain el bey, BP 325, ALGERIE) : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2015 . - 59 f. ; 30 cm.

Titre : Edna 's quest for a transcendental feminist identity in the creole patriarchal society in kate chopin's the awakening Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Meriem Meghzili, Auteur ; Imane Benkhelifa, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2017 Importance : 51 f. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : British and American Studies Feminism Transcendentalism Awakening Identity Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This dissertation undertakes a feminist reading of The Awakening by Kate Chopin,
precisely the story of a rebellious protagonist set during the late nineteenths of America.
Edna outlived a harsh patriarchal system, starting from her forced marriage by her father to
the controlled life by her husband, and above all the limited expectations of the Creole
society towards the programmed female gender role. This research aims to examine Edna
Pontellier self awakening and her quest for a new identity to gain freedom and independence.
To this aim, the feminist approach has been adopted to analyze the different stages that Edna
experienced along her stream of awareness towards freedom. Edna’s awakening could not
have been fulfilled without the considerable impact of nature and music upon her thinking. To
this end, it has been deemed essential to tackle these elements from a transcendental
perspective. Although she has gone through a zealous attempt of liberation from male
domination and society expectations, Edna was harshly condemned and her triumph was short
lived. The protagonist’s suicide marks her failure and represents her defeat in conquering a
male-dominated, confining Creole society.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=4254 Edna 's quest for a transcendental feminist identity in the creole patriarchal society in kate chopin's the awakening [texte imprimé] / Meriem Meghzili, Auteur ; Imane Benkhelifa, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE (Route Ain el bey, BP 325, ALGERIE) : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2017 . - 51 f. ; 30 cm.

Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This dissertation aims to investigate the female identity crisis in Doris Lessing’s The
Golden Notebook. The study relies on certain postmodern ideas and on feminist perspectives
too concerning the female identity, as theoretical framework. The research depicts the
refractions within Lessing’s protagonist identity and her struggle for self-integration. In this
sense, it highlights the impediments that highly influence the female identity and the reasons
behind self-disintegration which are basically political circumstances, social aspects and
gender roles and also offers a portrayal of men-women relationship and its impact on the
female’s psyche. The research discusses too the relationship between the protagonist’s
disintegrated identities and the novel’s structureDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=4643 Female identity crisis in doris lessing’s the golden notebook [texte imprimé] / Amina BENAMIRA, Auteur ; Imane Benkhelifa, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE (Route Ain el bey, BP 325, ALGERIE) : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2017 . - 56 f. ; 30 cm.

Titre : Insanity and suicide in virginia woolf’s mrs. dalloway Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Naila Keghouche, Auteur ; Imane Benkhelifa, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2015 Importance : 63 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : British and American Studies Psychoanalysis Sanity insanity trauma suicide. Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This dissertation examines the portrayal of the themes of insanity and suicide in Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway and, to a certain extent; the similarities of her work with her personal experience and how it is embodied through the two main characters Clarissa Dalloway and Septimus Warren Smith. Mrs. Dalloway tells the story of a single day in Clarissa Dalloway’s life but also interweaves it with another story, that of Septimus Smith. These themes have been approached from a psychoanalytical perspective in addition to the use of trauma theory and also biographical criticism relying mainly on the novel itself in addition to major works by Freud on Psychoanalysis and trauma theory as well as a biography of Woolf. By analyzing this novel; first, as far sanity and insanity are concerned, this researchdelves into Septimus’s madness and its causes. It also attempts at showing that the two different but parallel worlds of the sane and the insane are not so different after all to finally reach the conclusion that these very notions of sanity and insanity are, in fact; quite relative and overlapping. Another contrast in the novel to be shown is that of life and death and how Septimus’s suicide impacts Clarissa Dalloway. This section emphasizes the centrality of identity and the impact of rupture of communication with the outside world on the two protagonists. It reaches the result that suicide is but a mere quest to self-preservation and again sheds the light on the relativity of life and death. This work reaches the final result that Septimus and Clarissa were used by Woolf two different sides of her own, i.e.; her doubles.
