Proverbial expressions are culturally bound and their meanings cannot be inferred from their constituent parts. The influence of context is also provided to show its efficiency to increase the degree of comprehensibility of proverbs and hence translate them successfully. Furthermore, this research considers the degree to which proverbs‟ connotations may be preserved in English-Arabic translation, trying to make the student aware of the influence of culture on these fixed expressions and helping them to enhance their performance in the field of intercultural translation. The results of this research reveal two main causes of students‟ errors in translating proverbs. First, students adopt literal translation as the sole translation method. Second, language and culture specificity of proverbs affects students‟ productions negatively. Thus, translational competence which requires wide linguistic and cultural knowledge is the significant element for successful translation. Titre : Applying cultural content in efl classes to enhance students’ speaking proficiency : The case study of first year lmd students at the department of letters band english language Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Soraya Rabhi, Auteur ; Sabrina Simoud, Auteur ; Hadjer Bellout, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2017 Importance : 214 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Language Sciences Cultural Speaking Proficiency EFL Classes Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The present research aims at investigating the effect of teaching culture from its genuine
context on students’ speaking performance. It reports on the incorporation of teaching culture
in EFL classes and tests its effectiveness on enhancing students’ speaking performance. The
underlying hypothesis is that if teachers integrate culture in their oral expression classes and
teach it from its authentic context, this will enhance their students’ speaking proficiency. The
educational setting in which this study takes place is the Department of Letters and English
language, Faculty of Letters and Languages, University des Frères Mentouri Constantine. A
group of 24 learners taken randomly from a total population of ≈ 300 first year LMD students
has been used as a sample in the present study. In order to achieve the aim of the undertaken
research, answer the research questions, and attempt to confirm the validity of the hypothesis,
the researcher uses two research tools namely: a test and an interview. The test aims at testing
the effectiveness of teaching some cultural aspects, based on authentic sources, on students’
speaking proficiency. Besides, the students’ interview seeks to investigate their attitudes
toward the treatment. The findings of the investigation confirmed the hypothesis and shows
that the integration of culture through authentic videos with a support of some instructional
guidance helps students to improve their speaking performance. Therefore, committees in
charge at the Department of Letters and English Language, University des Frères Mentouri
Constantine, are argued to implement cultural content in the English language curriculum to
ensure a better learning experienceDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5085 Applying cultural content in efl classes to enhance students’ speaking proficiency : The case study of first year lmd students at the department of letters band english language [texte imprimé] / Soraya Rabhi, Auteur ; Sabrina Simoud, Auteur ; Hadjer Bellout, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2017 . - 214 f. ; 30 cm.
