Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This study aims to examine satire in two plays of the “towering” figure Wole Soyinka. It investigates the socio-political and religious vices prevailing in the African society in general, and Nigeria in particular, with the view and intention of correcting them. Using a sociological approach, the current work is built upon the analysis of The Trials of Brother Jero and A Play of Giants, and the study of satire in both plays. This study is divided into two chapters; the first chapter includes an introduction to: African drama, the drama of Wole Soyinka, and provides a critical analysis of the two plays. The second chapter involves an introduction to satire, the satire of Wole Soyinka, and a satirical vision in both plays. The findings from the research provide an understanding of the real happening of the socio-political and religious scene. It uncovers the hidden ill and malpractices of corrupt leaders. These vices are being satirized by the playwright, in order to bring out reformations and changes, by raising awareness in the minds of people, pushing them to ask questions and search for solutions.
