Résumé : |
It is commonly believed that the first step to fade the difficulties second year students of
English encounter while learning English as a Foreign Language ( EFL) is to understand
its grammar fully .Thereby, Grammar is the Skelton that second year students should flesh
through knowing the different aspects that cover the language .As far as the area of Phrasal
Verbs is concerned, Phrasal Verbs are important for the remarkable effect they have in
making the written and the spoken production of English more different and resembling that
of native speakers . This research attempts to shed light on Phrasal verbs by identifying them
and signaling the importance they have; and eventually suggesting a mean that might make
the task of learning them much easier. The research hypothesis claims that if Grammar
teachers teach Phrasal verbs within context , students will be able to use them appropriately.
In addition, this will add familiarity and help students to use them effectively in their
production whether it is written or spoken .To achieve this purpose , two questionnaires were
administrated .The first to a sample of Grammar Teachers, and the second to a sample of
second year students who received also a test to check their competence in guessing the
meaning of phrasal verbs in and out contexts .Thereby, the results obtained were analyzed and
discussed .They proved that Phrasal Verbs are difficult in both learning and teaching and that
stating them in a well defined context has helped the students a great deal in understanding
their meanings, especially the idiomatic ones and those with multiple meanings |
