This research aims at exploring the lack of writing vocabulary that most of foreign
learners of English face. To achieve our purpose, we conducted the present study from a
sample of second year students at the department of English at Mentouri University in
Constantine during the academic year 2012-2013.
Our study reports on the importance of vocabulary to make the process of writing
successful because words are the most important tools that enable students to write effectively
and to develop their writing skills. Learning vocabulary encourage students to write more
about experiences, thoughts, ideas, opinions and information about themselves, their culture
and their countries. We hypothesized that if second-year students have a large amount of the
English vocabulary items, then they could write a rich and good draft. The validity of our
hypothesis is based on a questionnaire and a test. The questionnaire is consists of questions
which are related to our research subject, they are about writing skills and vocabulary
background. However, the test contains of ten sentences with gaps and students should
complete the sentences with the appropriate words. The results have revealed that students
suffer from many difficulties while they write especially lack of vocabulary, because that they
did not achieved in answering. The findings of the questionnaire and the test confirm the
hypothesis of this study. |
