Résumé : |
This dissertation is an attempt to study the influence of strategy use on listening
comprehension. It is specifically designed to investigate the case of first year EFL students at
Constantine 1 University. It is an attempt to see whether the use of the three listening
strategies i.e. the meta-cognitive, cognitive and socio-affective listening strategies may affect
the students’ listening comprehension either positively or negatively. In other words, do these
strategies impede or enhance their comprehension?
The research tries then to analyze the impact of strategy use on the students’ listening
comprehension, and check out the allegation that says students who use more strategies
understand better when they listen to pedagogical listening materials.
The results obtained revealed that there is no relationship neither between the students’ use of
strategies as a whole nor any of the three sub categories of the listening strategies and
listening comprehension which disconfirms our hypothesis that students with a high level of
strategy use would exhibit a high degree of listening comprehension |
