The present work is a comparative study of how phrasal verbs are traslated from English into
Arabic. The study is based on a corpus which includes three English literally texts, « love and
time » الحة و الوقت , « the sick lion » الاسد المريض , and « the woodman and the serpent" الحطاب و
الافعى it has always been difficult to translate phrasal verbs from English into Arabic because
one cannot know what a given phrasal verb means, and whether it has an adequate meaning in
the target language language or not. In this respect, the aim of this study is to examine the
type of difficulties or problems that the translatormay face while translating phrasal verbs
from English into Arabic. Therefore, the texts are analyzed to find the differences of lexicale
and structural choice, which are presented in tables.the result of the study show that there are
potential problems in the process of translating phrasal verbs from English into Arabic, and
vice versa. Furthermore, this investigation also deals with equivalence difficulties posed in
translating English phrasal verbs into Arabic. For this, the finding show that in translation,
phrasal verbs are frequently used in arawide variety of contexts. They may preserve the same
meaning but if they are composed with other units the meaning changes |
