Golden Notebook. The study relies on certain postmodern ideas and on feminist perspectives
too concerning the female identity, as theoretical framework. The research depicts the
refractions within Lessing’s protagonist identity and her struggle for self-integration. In this
sense, it highlights the impediments that highly influence the female identity and the reasons
behind self-disintegration which are basically political circumstances, social aspects and
gender roles and also offers a portrayal of men-women relationship and its impact on the
female’s psyche. The research discusses too the relationship between the protagonist’s

the sake of dislodging the theory that the present perfect is always translated through the use
of (12 + the past), this study deals with a comparison between English and Arabic tenses and
