Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The purpose of the present study is to investigate the significance of transitional signals in
academic writing. It aims first to investigate the use of transitional signals in 2nd year students’
writing essays and their relevance , and second to explore whether students are aware of the
importance that such transitional linkers play in their writings, or not. To achieve these goals,
we hypothesize that an adequate use of the transitional signals in the students’ essays writing
lead to a better written production. To test the validity of our research hypothesis, two main
tools have been used: a questionnaire and a corpus based study. The questionnaire was
administered to a sample of teachers specialized in teaching written expression at the
Department of Letters and the English Language, University of Constantine 1. The second tool,
based on a corpus study, is concerned with the analysis of a collection of 13 written essays of
2nd year students at the same university. The results revealed that students encounter some
difficulties in inserting transitional words appropriately, and they are familiar with only few of
these signals more than the others. Therefore, students need extensive practice on the use of the
transitional devices so that they will learn how to apply them adequately, and enhance their
writing skill and performance as well.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=15802 an analyse of transitional devices in students essay writing : the case study of the second year english students at the departement of letters and english [texte imprimé] / Boutheina Simoud, Auteur ; Nesrine Hamani, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2021 . - 80 f. ; 30 cm.

Format : 30cm. Note générale : Une copie electronique PDF disponible au BUC. Langues : Français (fre) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : classifications causes effects of spelling errors. Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This study is conducted to point out a problematic area in language learning, which is spelling
errors, causes, classifications and their effects on the writing performance of EFL students.
The target population for this study is first year students of English Department at the
University of Frères Mentouri Constantine 1. For this, it can be hypothesized that If EFL
student are not aware of their spelling errors, their writing performance may be inadequate.
To check the validity of the hypothesis two means of research used: a teachers' questionnaire
and a students' test. The sample is made up of ; 10 teachers and 10 students. The results
obtained from both means have strongly confirmed the hypothesis we set in our study which
states that students commit different types of errors in their writing and that could be the
result of many reasons: students are not aware about the spelling rules and spelling strategies.
Because spelling is an important skill, student should practice and read and teachers should
devote, as well, sessions to teach the most important spelling rules and strategies whenever

Langues : Français (fre) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : At, In, On Research Situation Analysis. Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The purpose of this study is to investigate various types of misusing prepositions and the
causes that lead first year students to commit them in their compositions. For this purpose, it
is hypothesized that an inadequate use of the English prepositions ‘‘At, In, On’’ in the
students’ compositions, lead to a poor academic writing performance. To test our hypothesis,
we used two basic tools: the first is a test that aims to identify first whether students master
the use of the prepositions in their assignments, or not, and the second to disclose the
difficulties encountered by the learners in using these prepositions. The second tool is a
questionnaire directed to written expression teachers to evaluate their opinions toward the use
of such prepositions. The results obtained indicate that first year LMD students of English at
Mentouri University are aware of some of the prepositions rules; however there is
inappropriate employment of those prepositions due to the interference of the mother tongue.
The findings gathered in this study confirmed the set hypothesis in that the problems students
face in writing can be avoided, and successful production can be achieved if they use
prepositions appropriately.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11816 Errors in Using the English Prepositions ‘‘At, In, On’’ by EFL Learners: The Case Study of First Year English Students [texte imprimé] / Rokia Guedri, Auteur ; Nesrine Hamani, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2019 . - 59 f. ; 30cm.

Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie electronique PDF disponible au BUC Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Students Vocabulary,Crossword Puzzles Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Vocabulary is the most important and the most difficult skill in any language. That is why
teachers should be aware of the techniques they use to help university students enhance their
knowledge of foreign vocabulary items. The aim of the present work is to investigate the
improvement of the students’ vocabulary through the implementation of crossword puzzles.
We believe that using vocabulary games may be seen as an entertaining technique that helps
learners to be acquainted with new words, consolidating lexical items and memorizing them.
In this respect, we designed, first, a questionnaire for teachers of oral expression at the
Department of English; the aim was to get information about the importance of using
crossword puzzles, in oral sessions, as a technique to teach vocabulary. The study also implies
a test designed for students; a pre-test where students were given a crossword puzzle to solve,
plus a post-test where learners where asked to fill in the gaps with words they have
memorized form the pre-test. The results showed the effectiveness of this method in
improving the students’ vocabulary knowledge. Learners proved to have learnt some of the
unfamiliar words they have seen in the first session; besides, they were highly motivated and
interested in solving that crossword. Accordingly, it is highly recommended that crossword
puzzles should be used in teaching vocabularyDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11123 Improving the students vocabulary acquisition through the use of crossword puzzles : A case of First-year english students university of frères mentouri - constantine [texte imprimé] / Fatima Zahra Berkane, Auteur ; Nesrine Hamani, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2018 . - 79 f. ; 30 cm.

Titre : Investigating the learners awareness of the importance of using writing techniques to enhance the writing skill : The case of second and third year LMD students of english at the university of brothers Mentouri, Constantine Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : rayene Benharkou, Auteur ; Esma Benhadid, Auteur ; Nesrine Hamani, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2017 Importance : 55 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Applied Language Studies writing techniques learners skill Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : There are two categories of people who might be interested in the writing activity:
those who want to be specialized in the teaching of English as a second/foreign
language, and those who want to learn how to become good English writers. Future
teachers may benefit from some theoretical notions regarding the teaching of
English as a second/foreign language, which allows them to develop new teaching
strategies for various level of proficiency. Students may benefit from an instructive
approach to develop their skills from the writing perspective. This dissertation is
intended to investigate the importance of teaching writing techniques (grammar,
spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, capitalisation, coherence and unity), and the
effectiveness of 2nd and 3rd year students’ written expression curriculum at the
Department of English language, of Brothers Mentouri, on improving their writing
proficiency. In order to achieve this research, an extensive study is conducted and it
is divided into two chapters: a theoretical and practical one. We have relied heavily
on two means of research First, a questionnaire has been administered to teachers to
collect data about the importance of teaching writing techniques. Second, a test has
been given to second year students to test their abilities in writing effective and
correct essay. Thirdly, another test has been administered to third year students to
investigate whether or not they respect the writing rules when performing the task of
writing. The data obtained have proved that there must be some modifications to be
made in second and third year students’ curricula; the students’ writings would be
much improved if they respect the writing rules when performing the task of writing.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=4440 Investigating the learners awareness of the importance of using writing techniques to enhance the writing skill : The case of second and third year LMD students of english at the university of brothers Mentouri, Constantine [texte imprimé] / rayene Benharkou, Auteur ; Esma Benhadid, Auteur ; Nesrine Hamani, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2017 . - 55 f. ; 30 cm.
